What is it?
A bill of lading is a required document throughout the shipment process. The bill of lading (BOL) serves as a confirmation of freight services, a contract between the shipper and carrier, and a document proving ownership of the material. A BOL is a legal document that includes all information needed to complete the shipment properly, as well as process and bill it correctly. This document must accompany the shipped goods, regardless of the mode of transport, and must be signed (or confirmed in some manner) by an authorized representative from the carrier, shipper, and the receiver.
