What is it?
This defect appears when the edge of the coil is damaged. The damage can be confined to the inner diameter, or occur throughout the coil’s edge. It is also known as
side-wall damage or damaged ID. This defect can be a result of overhead crane damage, the coil hitting something during transit, or tractor damage. Most causes for this defect are associated with poor and/or rough handling by a crane or tow motor at the steel mill prior to shipment, or when unloaded at customer location. As with telescoped coils, damaged edges are more likely to happen if coil is wound incorrectly.
