Home / Mill Surface Defects / Roll Peel Scale
What is it?
This defect looks like open surface defects that look like short, rolled-in scale streaks, that are picked clean. It can also be known as pits and scale streaks. The defect usually occurs when hot mill work rolls are worn to the point that the oxide layer from the work rolls gets rolled in the processed strip. In addition, large gauge changes to or from light gauges can cause the oxide layer to peel off.
