Home / Mill Surface Defects / Rolled-In Side Guide Material
What is it?
This defect looks like thin strips of excess steel rolled into the top surface of the coil. It is also known as rolled in material or rolled in wires. This defect occurs when material from the coil ends becomes abraded off and rolled into the top surface of the coil. It is a result from the coil rubbing the side guides in the mill during the hot-rolling process.
