What is it?
Slag is a by-product of the steel-making process, formed during the smelting process. While its primary function is to remove waste materials, slags also serve other important purposes, such as helping control the temperature during smelting, and reducing the levels of re-oxidation while the metal is still in its liquid form.
Steel Slag Uses
Beyond enhancing the overall efficiency of the steel production process, slag has a wide range of industrial and environmental applications. Slag is often used in construction to replace natural materials in concrete and road building, making structures stronger and more eco-friendly. It also helps cut CO₂ emissions in cement production by replacing traditional materials. Beyond construction, slag improves soil quality, helps clean wastewater, and can even be used to make glass and ceramics.
