Home / Mill Surface Defects / Transverse Cracks
What is it?
This defect happens to the coil’s mill edge, and looks like a periodic, transverse-to- rolling direction open sliver, approximately one to two inches wide. It usually repeats in four to ten inch intervals. This defect is also called edge cracks, laminated edge. The defect is caused as result of over cooling of slab edges off of continuous caster.
